Opening a museum for digital art in America

Digital artist Beeple hosts the grand opening of the Charleston museum.

The Charleston Museum (WCSC) is a new art gallery opening soon in South Carolina. This museum, which has attracted global attention, is an attempt to display digital art in a physical space.

most people could only see Beeple’s art on digital devices so far. The artist, whose real name is Mike Winkelman, said this new space attempts to show that digital art is another form of artistic expression.

Winkelman gained attention in 2021 when his artistic NFT sold for more than $69 million at a Christie’s auction. He says he tries to walk a narrow line that is engaging enough to make visitors think, without being heavy and incomprehensible. People find familiar things here and say this is a new artistic experience I haven’t had before. 

Many NFT activists who previously have been in touch with each other on Twitter and have never met each other in person, find a chance to meet in this museum. After the grand opening on the weekend, the studios in the collection will be open to the public for a limited time, which will be announced on the website.
