Mohammad Mahdi Zolfaghari was born in 1983 in Birjand, Iran. He has been individually sculpturing for about two years without any training and with a searching viewpoint. He has had no intention to hold an exhibition, neither individually nor as a group.
Artist’s Sculpturing Style
Zolfaghari’s works are primitively formed with completely personal ideas, and probably slightly considering cubism works. These sculptures don’t belong to a specific culture. Materials used in the sculptures are mostly rocks, mechanical debris, wood, bones and other offal materials. In his workshop that is placed in a stone factory, he playfully makes sculptures, most of which are reflections of his bold childhood memories or daily experiences. Structures and sounds of sentences – particularly in English – give a lot of new attractiveness to Zolfaghari’s works and significantly influence formation and arrangement of element and materials arrangements and formation of his sculptures. Zolfaghari consciously and intentionally rejects real forms and tries to create his works in the simplest possible way without any preparation and far from classic designs and thoughts. With his every single work pieces, he says the words from his perspective and freely moves from speech language to visualization and from visualization to “speaking with his sculptures”.
