Imagine an exhibition that not only is a two-dimensional space, but you can see the images on the walls, ceiling and floor and even feel the movement and the toch of brush on the canvas and the smell of paint, or walk through Van Gogh’s paintings.
According to the definition of Cambridge dictionary, the word immersion means “to be completely involved in something” and immersive art aims to use new media and platforms to create mental and physical experiences in a way that completely immerses the audience in its world.
Thanks to technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality, immersive art turns art into content, and tries to bring the real world into the virtual world so that the difference cannot be easily recognized. This method involves all the five senses and by means of platforms such as video map reading, AR, VR, artificial intelligence, sound technologies, and artist’s light shows, it can create an atmosphere where takes the audience to a whole different world as if you are in a dream and you don’t know whether it is dream or not. Everything should be touchable and interactive like a dream, and the five senses should be fully active. You are no longer just a spectator, but a part of the artwork!
This method of integrating the physical world and technology has been very popular, and the display of animated images of flowers, fish and birds that fly away with the feet of visitors, butterflies that disappear when touched, and changing colors of flower buds are some examples. Being a part of an art exhibition and walking through a work of art is such a fascinating experience. Unfortunately in our country, this gap is felt, and artist and gallery owners are highly suggested getting involved in this technology.
